For
Men & Women who want to master the details... we
offer our fundamentals classes...
Leading
Fundamentals
(Completion of Basic Salsa III level required.)
Leading Fundamentals will teach and drill every detailed
element of the proper technique you will need to be
a strong lead.
Specific techniques learned in Leading Fundamentals:
- Partner Tension - arms and hands
- Specific hand positioning
- Giving turns effectively and clearly
- Giving your partner “preps” correctly
- Salsa step pattern footwork breakdown and
options
- Controlling your own spins
- Partner spacing
- Adjusting to your partner’s patterns
- Clear hand leading
- Dancing within the frame of the body
Why this class is different at Latin Rhythms:
The best lead is a clear lead. Quite frankly, we believe
the clearest leads are those who can master the proper
technique of their hand and arm tension. So many other
studios do not spend one fraction of the appropriate
time necessary going into all the important lead-based
technique details there actually are. Latin Rhythms
focuses on the details because at the end of the day,
this is what will make the best dance experience. The
technique and details learned in this class are priceless.
This class will prepare you for ALL Salsa, Mambo, and
ChaChaCha classes!

Following
Fundamentals
(Completion of Basic Salsa III level required.)
Following Fundamentals will teach and drill every detailed
element of the proper technique you will need to be
a strong follow.
Specific Techniques Learned
- Partner Tension - arms and hands
- Specific hand positioning
- Receiving turns effectively
- Receiving preps from partner
- Prep footwork/breakdown
- Multiple spinning technique
- Controlling your balance during spins
- Partner spacing
- Dancing submissively/attentively
- Dancing within the frame of the body
- Efficient basic step footwork
- Becoming a “light” follow
Why this class is different at Latin Rhythms:
Maricza Valentin is one of the best and most experienced
follows on the scene. She has designed a following curriculum
using the same techniques she uses herself. A follow's
key to success is to dance as submissively and attentively
as possible. Reciprocate the proper tension to your
partner; never lose your basic step; and do not over
anticipate what your partner is preparing to execute
on you. Simply put… just follow.
This class will prepare you for ALL Salsa, Mambo, and
ChaChaCha classes!
