Basic
Merengue
(Complete beginnners start here - NO experience
required.)
This exciting class will teach you the fundamentals
of being a lead/follow in Merengue style dancing.
Specific techniques learned in Basic Merengue:
- Timing and Rhythm
- Basic footwork including individual turns,
traveling in partners, and body/hand positioning
- Minimally 4 turn combinations are taught which
incorporate basic passing skills, partner turns, as
well as traveling steps
Why this class is different at Latin Rhythms:
Latin Rhythms focuses on bringing out the fun of this
popular dance. For many students, this is the first
dance they learn or have a general understanding of
the rhythm coming in. Our focus on maintaining timing
with their basic step as well as the appropriate hand
tension in partner work aids in our students development
and often times provide a good foundation for other
dances taught at our studio.

Intermediate Merengue
(Basic Merengue level experience required.)
In Intermediate Merengue, you will advance towards
more intricate turn combinations (4-8) which incorporate
techniques learned in Basic Merengue.
Specific techniques learned in Intermediate
Merengue:
- More timing and rhythm work as we begin incorporating
faster music and drill timing as partners versus on
an individual basis.
- Turn combinations are a focus as we introduce
patterns, which involve traveling movements for both
the lead and follow.
- Tying styling and music beats to specific
steps is also covered.
Why this class is different at Latin Rhythms:
In our intermediate class, we provide a great variation
of turn combinations as we often rotate instructors.
This class is not only about teaching combinations and
memorizing them, but it aids in opening each individuals
creativity in helping the students connect movements
on their own.
This class prepares you for more enjoyment in your
dancing!
