What
Our Students Say About Their Experience with Latin Rhythms...
page 2 |
"...All
of our friends know that we've been taking classes and
they always commend us on our dancing..."
Well, my main goal was to learn the basics of salsa
which I did right away just in my first month with Latin
Rhythms. My second goal was to get my boyfriend to become
my salsa partner. He comes from a background of dancing
pure "Nortenas", so convincing him to take
classes was hard....he loves it now!
You always hear about dance studios on the North side
of Chicago, so having Latin Rhythms close to home is
great. The other best thing about taking lessons at
LRDS is that they are taught by dancers in my age group,
which makes it less intimidating, and the dancing is
more "new" school... its got that modern look,
which is great!
I've always loved salsa music and it was always played
at my family parties. I never knew the basic steps of
salsa so I'd always find myself using the "Cumbia"
step. I knew that the right step to move forward and
back, but as far as turns and all the other combinations,
I had no clue.
As I mentioned before, my boyfriend is all about "Nortenas"
so convincing him to learn salsa was tough. I think
what helped out was that he knew one of the instructors
and he saw how much I really would want to dance it
at the clubs. We were always sidelined when salsa music
would come on....but not anymore! He enjoys it as much
as I do now and its great!
All of our friends know that we've been taking classes
and they always commend us on our dancing. My boyfriend
and I are looking forward to moving onto Intermediate
2... I can't wait to learn the spins.

"I
just wanted to learn the right way to dance these dances,
instead of trying to pick up from someone who knows
how to dance, but not how to teach..."
At Latin Rhythm, the classes are only a month long,
so you get lots of experience with different instructors,
who are all excellent. And, the timetables and choices
of classes are great.
Some young girls I go to college with (I'm a returning
student) and myself wanted to take Salsa and Merengue
lessons and heard from another student that Latin Rhythms
was good. We signed up, took our classes and loved it.
There's quite a generation gap between us, but we both
found what we were looking for. Unfortunately, I've
had to take a pause for a while, but I'll be back for
sure. I've already recommended the school to others
I know, too.

"...I
thought I knew how to dance, but after attending Basic
Salsa I & II, I was totally fooling myself..."
My boyfriend and I danced really bad together and were
never in sync. So we decided to take the classes together.
LRDS has a fun atmosphere, the instructors are great,
and I like the hours as well as the location. The classes
that LRDS offers compliment what the students are learning
- step-by-step. I also liked how Sol made things easy
and fun.
I thought I knew how to dance, but after attending
Basic Salsa I & II, I was totally fooling myself.
I learned the basic skills and learned to be lead not
to lead. It has improved my dancing skills and I feel
comfortable dancing with others. I will be going back
as soon as I finish school to take the additional classes.

"They
won't get their money's worth at any other school but
here, Latin Rhythms..."
When I started to take lessons Sol taught the basic
salsa class. And she is the best at describing and explaining
how important it is to learn the music. Then I took
the advance salsa class with Maricza. In my personal
opinion, she is the best teacher and dancer in Chicago
and I definitely recommend anybody to take lessons with
any instructor at Latin Rhythms... Good job guys!

"The
teachers are out there dancing in the clubs and doing
performances and really know what’s new and love
what they do..."
I feel that I can always improve, though I am always
complimented on my ability as a lead. When I observed
a couple of the teachers from Latin Rhythms out social
dancing, I decided to check out a class. I was impressed
at their willingness, enthusiasm, and ability to share
what they knew and also; in spite of it being a group
class, were able to give ample individual attention.
I have taken other classes all over town and was especially
impressed with the classes at Latin Rhythms. I tell
people that, despite the somewhat inconvenient location
(for north-siders) it is well worth it.

"I've
taken lessons at other studios and felt the teaching
style was inconsistent and the instructors were not
approachable..."
My co-worker and I always attend the Latin Festivals
and became inspired to learn Salsa once we saw Latin
Rhythms perform. I've taken lessons at other studios
and felt the teaching style was inconsistent and the
instructors were not approachable.
As a dancer, I need that type of support from a studio,
where I can learn in an unintimidating environment and
feel confident in the technique taught to me. Latin
Rhythms has a great atmosphere for learning and improving
your skills. As a dancer, technique is important. What
you learn will not be rushed and it's a non-intimidating
environment.
Victor was our teacher. His teaching style is crisp,
relaxed, and professional. My partner and I understood
the concept of the "oh's" and " oh no's"
to Salsa. I look forward to returning in the Fall. Someday,
I wish to perform with a professional Latin dance troupe.
Through their talented instructors and reasonable prices
I am motivated to reach my goal.
